Lar Lubovitch
Lar Lubovitch Dance Company
Chicago native Lar Lubovitch grew up on Maxwell Street and was a student of the School of the Art Institute Chicago before starting the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company in New York in 1968. His choreographic work has been performed by major dance companies around the world, including American Ballet Theatre, San Francisco Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, New York City Ballet, The Joffrey Ballet, Martha Graham Dance Company, and many others. In 2007, Lubovitch co-founded the Chicago Dancing Festival; he was honored as “Chicagoan of the Year” that year by the Chicago Tribune. In 2008 he was bestowed the same title by Chicago Magazine. Lubovitch holds the position of UCI Distinguished Professor of Choreography at the University of California, Irvine.
