Chicago Dance History Project, in the course of gathering oral histories, has been fortunate to have the opportunity to digitize and preserve thousands of digital objects within scores of donated collections. We are grateful to those in the community who have entrusted their treasured items to our digitizing care and preservation. These digital assets include photographs, programs, playbills, posters, media clippings, choreography notations, dance company records, and other dance related writings. Processing these collections to bring them online for public accessibility is a work in progress and a labor of love.
In the course of migrating our digital archive to the Newberry Digital Library, CDHP is documenting, curating, and contextualizing objects into distinct, coherent collections for public presentation. This collections webpage will be the site of rotating online exhibits that highlight aspects of our collections as we process and curate our inventory toward full public access.
If you are someone with historical knowledge of the Chicago dance community and are interested in donating a few hours a week to provide contextual information that will augment and inform local historical meaning to items and collections held by CDHP, please reach out to our collections manager. We would love to work with you!
