Lester Goodman was born and raised on the south side of Chicago and began dancing at age seven. He performed Balinese dance on the vaudeville circuit throughout the US and Canada and danced on Broadway and television. He was a dancer with Katherine Dunham and a producer and choreographer for the Temptations. Goodman co-founded the Joseph Holmes Chicago Dance Theatre in 1974, contributing greatly to the Chicago Black Renaissance.
